Avian Infectious Bronchitis: Virus Distribution in Tissues of Chicks

Abstract
Following aerosol inoculation of avlan infectious bronchitis virus, the concentration of virus was greatest in the trachea, lung, and air sacs, with lesser amounts in the kidney, pancreas, spleen, liver, and bursa of Fabricius. Virus could be detected only occasionally from heparinized blood samples. Virus was present in tissues at 24 hr and was found rather consistently through, the 8th day. Virus was detected only occasionally from day 9 through day 14. There was essentially no difference between virus distribution in tissues when the different serological types of bronchitis virus were used as inocula. Virus used at a high embryo-passage level (85th) resulted in virus multiplication confined primarily to the trachea and lung.
