Abstract
This study reports on the drinking habits of a sample of white high school students who reside in a rural community that is the prototype of the abstinent tradition. The major impact of the rigid controls on alcohol use resulted in a surreptitious drinking style and several signs suggestive of problem drinking. Keywords
