Abstract
Castrated (BALB/c × C3H)F1 hybrid male mice received 20 percent diethylstilbestrol pellets when 2.5 months of age. Of 59 whose pellets were removed 16 weeks later, 1 (2%) developed mammary tumors. Of 60 whose pellets were removed 16 weeks later and that received second pellets 26 weeks after the first had been removed, 33 (55%) developed tumors. A second exogenous hormonal stimulation was essential before changes initiated by the first pellet could proceed to malignancy. Keywords
