Abstract
The pathogenesis, pathology and differential diagnosis of purulent meningitis and its complications are here reviewed- from the viewpoint of clinico-pathologic correlations. The importance of changes in the brain substance secondary to the presence of inflammation in the meninges has been emphasized: essentially cerebral edema and vascular congestion. These reactions, along with the inflammatory exudate are responsible for the clinical manifestations of purulent meningitis and its complications. Keywords
