Abstract
The efficiency of a gyrotron resonator as a function of resonator geometry, applied magnetic field and electron beam parameters is studied in the adiabatic cold cavity fixed field approximation. The results are used as a guide for the selection of design parameters for experiments at the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe, West Germany. Criteria for selection were good efficiency over an extended power range, smooth start-up behaviour and power control, and mode stability. Keywords
