A Technique for Studying Digestion by Grasshoppers Using a 103 Ruthenium-Labelled Marker

Abstract
103Ru-labeled tris (1,10-phenanthroline) ruthenium (II) chloride was a convenient marker in investigating digestion in grasshoppers. Assimilation efficiencies and the retention time of the food in the gut were measured. The technique described is applicable to studies of a variety of chewing herbivorous insects.
