An Alkali Resistant Thermostable Hemopoietic Factor in Liver

Abstract
Existence in the liver of hemopoietic principles, as yet undefined, is suggested by the occasional response to crude liver extract of anemia refractory to commercial preparations of vitamin B12 and folic acid. Such factors may also account for sustained remissions induced in pernicious anemia by oral liver extract (1), since such remissions cannot be attributed to either the crystalline B12 or folic acid content of the extract.
