A substance from animal tissues which induces ketonuria

Abstract
Evidence has been provided for the existence of a ketonuria-stimulating substance which can be extracted from horse muscle. An animal suitable for the detection of such a ketopoietic material is the normal rat given a diet rich in fat. Some of the physiological characteristics of this test animal have been described. A method for the isolation of the ketopoietic substance from horse muscle has been evolved and evidence has been provided which suggests that the isolated material is homogeneous. Chemical examination indicates that the isolated material is a tri-glyceride, and some evidence has been provided that a fatty acid chain in the glyceride is in a partially oxidized state.
