Abstract
The geology and environmental history of the Devonian of the Ferques inlier are discussed. The basal Devonian is of Givetian age and lies unconformably on Upper Silurian black shales. It is of Old Red Sandstone facies, but passes upwards into the marine deposits of a shallow shelf, in which an alternation of biostromal and lagoonal sediments occur. The sea shallowed towards the end of the Devonian, with the uppermost Frasnian and the Famennian represented by mud and sand flats. The changing environments of this region of the Devonian shelf are discussed in detail. This publication has 20 references indexed in Scilit:
