Haplosporangium in Canadian Rodents

Abstract
From a survey of the rodents of Alberta, 13 white-footed deer-mice (Peromyscus maniculatus borealis) and one red squirrel (Sciurus hudsonicus baileyi) were found to contain fungous cells in their lungs which yielded in culture the phycomycete Haplosporangium parvum. In the rodent lungs, the fungous cells reached a diameter of as much as 270 u. In culture, the fungus produced single-celled sporangia. These sporangia, when incubated at 37 C, grew to about 10 times their original diameter.
