An Echoventriculographic Method for Pediatric Practice

Abstract
On the basis of measurements made in pneumoencephalograms parts of the ventricular system are correlated with extracranial reference lines in different age groups. With the aid of the results obtained an echoventriculographic method has been devised for estimating the size and the position of the supratentorial ventricular system in infants and children. The technique of the echoventriculographic examination is described. The reproducibility and the reliability of the results are equally good whether the examination is performed by one or by two examiners. The potentialities and the limitations of the method are discussed. Mit Messungen des Pneumoenzephalogramms werden bestimmte Abschnitte des ventrikulären Systems mit extrakranialen Bezugslinien in verschiedenen Altersgruppen verglichen. Mit Hilfe der Ergebnisse ist eine echoventrikulographische Methode entwickelt worden, die eine Bestimmung der Größe und Lage des supratentoriellen Ventrikelsystems bei Neugeborenen und Kindern ermöglicht. Die technische Durchführung der Echoventrikulographie wird beschrieben. Die Ergebnisse sind gut reproduzierbar. Die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten der Methode sowie ihre Grenzen werden diskutiert.
