Abstract
Over the last 40 years, our understanding of the pathogenesis of myocardial infarction (MI) has evolved and allowed for new treatment strategies that have greatly improved survival. This study, together with {1}, demonstrated the role of thrombosis as a cause of acute MI (AMI), which was debated for decades in the 20th century until the 1970’s, when it was clearly established as the cause of nearly all AMIs seen at autopsy and most large AMIs presenting clinically. This Recommendation is of an article referenced in an F1000 Faculty Review also written by Moussa Saleh and John A Ambrose.
