Abstract
An attempt was made to obtain the transformed cells from normal hamster embryonic cells by 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide (4 NQO) in vitro. It has been found that transformation does occur in cultures treated with 4 NQO at the concentration of 5×10-7 M for 8 days by 55 days after the application of the agent, and they are easily transplantable into adult hamsters producing a fibrosarcoma at the site of injection. Neither the cultures treated with a noncarcinogen, 6-nitroquinoline-1-oxide nor untreated cultures have given transformed cells. Keywords
