Some Observations on the Ability of Heme to Catalyze the Oxidation of Easily Oxidizable Substances by Peroxides of Fats and Fatty Acids.

Abstract
The oxidation of such compounds as benzidine, guajac resin, leucomolachite green, 3,5-dichloro-4,4[image] -hydroxy-phenylendiamine by peroxides of fats and fatty acids is catalyzed by heme. Faster reactions and more intensive colors may be obtained when heme is used in the form of imidazol-, pyridine-, or other hemochromogens. The reaction is most readily seen when performed on filter paper.
