Abstract
This study examines the effect of transforming growth factor beta 1 and 2 (TGF-beta 1 and TGF-beta 2) on the proliferation of human Tenon's capsule fibroblasts in tissue culture. Both TGF-beta 1 and TGF-beta 2 were shown to stimulate proliferation at 1000 and 100 pg/ml concentrations. We discuss the significance of these findings with respect to wound healing following trabeculectomy, and postulate why some eyes are more at risk of failure than others. Keywords
