Abstract
Using a slowing down kernel employed in radiation damage studies, it is shown that the existence of Placzek discontinuities at the boundaries of successive collision intervals depends markedly on the angular distribution in the centre-of-mass system. For hard potentials, the discontinuities will exist, whilst for soft, long-range potentials they will not. Conditions for existence are discussed. Keywords
