Abstract
The cytologic appearances of fine needle aspiration biopsy from a benign human signet ring cell tumor of ovarian stroma are presented. The aspirate is characterized by the presence of many cells with large vacuoles in their cytoplasm giving them the signet ring appearance. The lack of malignant criteria in the nuclei and failure to demonstrate mucin or lipid by special stains helps to differentiate these cells from other sources of signet ring cells such as mucinous cystadenomas and cystadenocarcinomas and Krukenberg tumors.
