Abstract
Two feeding trials and one metabolism trial were conducted to evaluate infrared-roasted and extruder-processed soybean products for baby pigs. Performance (rate of gain and feed:gain) of pigs fed a corn, infrared-roasted soybean diet was improved by lowering the calorie:protein ratio with addition of protein in trial 1, but not in trial 2. Performance of pigs fed corn-soybean meal plus soybean oil diets was superior to that of pigs fed infrared-roasted soybean diets in trial 2. Digestibility of energy and protein from infrared-roasted soybeans was lower than from soybean meal plus soybean oil or extruder-processed soybeans in trial 3. Protein quality was equal for all three products, as estimated by apparent biological value. Copyright © 1973. American Society of Animal Science .
