The Environment of an Insect Field Cage1

Abstract
Measurements of temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, evaporation, and wind were made inside and outside a saran 20-mesh per 2,54-cm screen insect field cage to determine environmental alterations caused by the screened enclosure. No significant changes in temperature and relative humidity were detected. Solar radiation was reduced by 19%. Rainfall measured inside the cage totaled 16% less than that of the exterior gauge. Wind speed inside averaged 51.5% less than that measured outside through the sampling period. About 20% less water was evaporated from a white bulb atmometer inside the cage than from one exposed outside.
