Comparison between 'power matrix model' and 'time domain model' in modelling large signal responses of DFB lasers

Abstract
Two different modelling tools have been proposed recently for the investigation of large signal dynamic responses of distributed feedback lasers: power matrix model a mixed time frequency model and time domain model. The paper presents quantitative comparisons between these two models and shows very good agreement for both large and small signal characteristics, which include longitudinal effects such as hole burning. An extensive comparison has been made for both single moded and double moded devices with the former demonstrating instability at high powers. The advantages of each model's features are also discussed.
