Abstract
Presents a Swedish police chief’s analysis of the operational command concept, defining different tactical situations and ways to improve command functions. Police activities either occur unexpectedly or are known beforehand. There is a difference if conditions are generally seen as calm, uncertain or turbulent. Some situations are static, others are dynamic. Stresses the need to maintain professional competence and be mentally prepared for the odd, difficult or different. Argues that information is power, therefore good intelligence gathering and information mediation are important in all police operations. Keywords
