Abstract
The total thiol+disulphide content of nuclei obtained from rat livers was approximately twice that found in nuclei from rat thymus gland. Amounts of disulphide were usually small, and the amount of thiol was increased about twofold in the presence of 4[image]-urea. Of the total thiol+disulphide in liver and thymus nuclei 10% was associated with nuclear ribosomes and 30% was extractable in dilute hydrochloric acid. The acid-extractable thiol groups were associated with two of the histone fractions, which could be separated electrophoretically. Mitochondria and microsomes from rat liver contained basic thiol-containing proteins which were extracted with 50 mM-hydrochloric acid. These proteins had similar amino acid compositions and were each apparently homogeneous on electrophoresis. This publication has 22 references indexed in Scilit:
