Abstract
Balance studies on N, S, Ca and P and the urinary excretion of creatine and creati-nine were made in 3 typical, primary-pituitary dwarfs, and 3 patients dwarfed secondary to chronic, nonpituitary disease, before and after the adm. of ant. pituitary lobe ext. which contained the alleged growth hormone. The alterations which occurred were similar in the 2 groups. In most instances, the immediate effect was to decrease the storage of these substances, and the later effect was to increase storage. The metabolic changes gave no indication of the amt. of growth to be expected in either group of dwarfs. There was no consistent alteration in the serum Ca, P, phosphatase, basal O2 consumption or glucose tolerance. The effect of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus on the results and the discrepancy in N and S metabolism are discussed. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
