Abstract
Once believed to be large viruses, the causative agents of trachoma, psittacosis, inclusion conjunctivitis, and venereally transmitted genital tract infections have been reclassified as bacteria and placed in their own order, Chlamydiales. These organisms also can cause eye and respiratory infections in infants born to mothers with genital tract infection. Diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of such infections are described. Keywords
