Abstract
The effect of fluoride on the formation of calcium phosphate on an anionpermselective membrane was studied at near-physiological temperature and pH. The fluoride-free precipitate comprised petal-like flaky crystals. When 1 ppm of fluoride ions was added to a phosphate solution, the precipitate contained crystals of two different shapes, flaky and plate-like. With 10 ppm of fluoride, thicker plate-like crystals were formed after 5 days of incubation. X-ray diffraction patterns of all samples were characteristic of calcium apatites. No extraneous peaks due to octacalcium phosphate or dicalcium phosphate dihydrate were found. Keywords
