Dermal Sensitivity to Paracoccidioidin and Histoplasmin in Family Members of Patients with Paracoccidioidomycosis *

Abstract
Transmission of paracoccidioidomycosis infection from the patient to close family members has been indicated by comparing dermal sensitivity reactions to paracoccidioidin and histoplasmin in households of patients and controls. The wives of patients were 3 to 5 times more at risk than other adult women. These findings suggest that a common source of infection other than the environment or occupation occurs in the patients' households. This source may be the patient himself. Active disease was not diagnosed in any family member studied.
