Abstract
A d.c. circuit model has been proposed by Goldreich and Lynden-Bell to account for the modulation of Jupiter's decametric radio emission by Io. The model accounts for the observations only if the electrical resistance of Io is less than some critical resistance. These resistances are estimated and it is shown that Io's is probably the greater. It is also shown that the model probably cannot be applied to Amalthea. Keywords
