Abstract
A case of purely traumatic atlanto-occipital dislocation in a surviving adult has been reported. Rupture of spinal meninges and anterior atlanto-occipital ligamentous structures was demonstrated by roentgenographic studies. A well documented case has apparently not been recorded before. Autopsy reports of traumatic atlanto-occipital dislocation are also rare. The occipito-atlanto-axial ligaments normally are very strong and are not prone to rupture. Keywords
