Abstract
The potentiating action of carbon dioxide on the action of local anaesthetics was con-firmed for two anaesthetics. The effect of a non-ionized local anaesthetic with carbon dioxide on the compound action potential of frog nerves provided further evidence for the mechanism of potentiation of local anaesthetic action by carbon dioxide, viz. “diffusion trapping”. The potential usefulness of a carbonated solution of bupivacaine was indicated.
