PRIMARY SPLENIC NEUTROPENIA, WITH REPORT OF A CASE

Abstract
This paper consists of a case report of "Primary Splenic Neutropenia" which meets all the criteria set up by Wiseman and Doan in their paper published in the Ann. Int. Med., 1942 xvi, 1097. The theory is postulated that the spleen exerts a selective destructive action on the various cellular components of the blood. In this particular case the poly-morphonuclear neutrophiles alone were affected, and because of the promptness with which a splenectomy was performed, further complications were avoided. This case also illustrates the now well-known fact that in cases of pneumonia, a leucopenia is not a contra-indication to the adm. of a sulpha drug.
