Abstract
Subcut. injn. of 1.5 mg. of atropine sulfate in a healthy 28-yr.-old man whose only cardiac abnormality was a right bundle branch block, repeatedly produced periods of normal intraventricular conduction during the 8- to 15-min. interval following admn. of the drug, at which time the vagus-stimulating effect of atropine was considered to be active. Reversion to normal conduction was unrelated to changes in heart rate. No effect-on the bundle branch block was noted following the admn. of 02, amyl nitrite, ergotamine, or prostigmine. A possible explanation of this phenomenon might be found in some earlier observations that vagal stimulation resulted in a decrease in the refractory period of junctional tissue in the intact mammalian heart. Keywords
