Abstract
A method for the quantification of free estradiol-17β in biological samples using the pentafluorophenylhydrazone derivative and gas-phase chromatography with electron capture detection is described. Both estrone and estradiol may be quantitated in the same biological sample by the procedure. The method is about as sensitive as existing double isotope derivative procedures and possibly more specific than most methods for the quantification of estradiol-17β. As little as 0.080 ng of pure estradiol can be detected. Normal values of estradiol-17β in blood plasma from pregnant women are presented and the advantages and disadvantages of the method discussed. Keywords
