A Patient Classification System Based on the Behavioral System Model of Nursing

Abstract
This article presents the development of a patient classification system based on the Johnson Behavioral System Model of Nursing. Although the system has been operationalized for use in the psychiatric setting, it can be applied in all nursing practice setting through the development of specific patient criteria. Significant factors affecting the classification of patients in the psychiatric setting are discussed.
