Abstract
A review is given of some aspects of magnetic birefringence. We describe the attemps that have been made to understand its microscopic origins and its use in measuring magnetic phase diagrams and critical exponents. The fluctuations of the birefringence away from its average contribute to the background intensity. Magnetoelectric crystals can show a gyrotropic birefringence. This publication has 14 references indexed in Scilit:
