Abstract
The addition of 0.05 ml of chloroform to 1 ml of allantoic or tissue culture fluids containing virus, followed by shaking for 10 minutes was found to result in the complete inactivation of those agents susceptible to ether. Viruses such as adeno, Coxsackie, echo and polio were found to be resistant to such treatment. The lethal effect of chloroform on inflenza viruses was found not to destroy their hem agglutinating properties. Chloroform, thus, appears to be an effective, easy to employ and fast acting agent for separating ether sensitive from non-sensitive viruses. Keywords
