Short Rib-Polydactyly Syndromes

Abstract
The authors report on a newborn which died only a few hours after birth. It manifested generalized dropsy and ascites, a central upper lip cleft, narrow thorax, severe dysraphia, short limbs but normal length trunk, and brachydactyly. Particularly striking radiological findings were the extremely short, horizontal ribs and a shortening of the long bones, with rounded calcification zones. On the basis of comparison with other cases of short rib-polydactyl syndromes (SRPS) and other chondrodysplasias, this case was classified as Majewski's syndrome, even though there was no polydactyly and the shortness of the tibiae was not as extreme as in typical cases. Wir berichten über ein neugebotenes Kind, das wenige Stunden postpartal gestorben ist. Es zeigte allgemeinen Hydrops und Ascites, mittlere obere Lippenspalte, schmalen Thorax, schwere Hirnmißbildungen, kurze Gliedmaßen bei regelrechter Rumpflänge und Brachydaktylie. Auf den Röntgenbildern fielen vor allem die extrem kurzen, horizontal verlaufenden Rippen und eine Verkürzung der langen Röhrenknochen mit abgerundeten Verkalkungszonen auf. Ein Vergleich mit anderen Fällen von Short Rib-Polydactyly Syndromes (SRPS) und anderen Chondrodysplasien läßt diesen Fall dem Majewski-Syndrom zuordnen, obwohl eine Polydaktylie fehlt und die Tibiae nicht so extrem kurz wie bei typischen Fällen sind.
