Abstract
High infection rate with Schistosoma haematobium among school children examined in agricultural schemes in the Khartoum province indicate that urinary schistosomiasis is actually much more prevalent than was believed. Infected Bulinus truncatus snails were encountered in some irrigation canals. The snail Biomphalaria ruppellii, the intermediate host of S. mansoni is recorded for the first time in the province, but no autochthonous cases with this schistosome were found. S. bovis was recovered from cattle, sheep, pigs, equines and camels. Examinations of small mammals for their natural infection with any of the schistosome species were negative.
