Abstract
H. (A.)inermis aponommoides Warburton, 1913, appears to possess the most primitive characters of any of the approximately 100 forms that comprise the genus Haemaphysalis. Owing to its unique phylogenetic position and unsatisfactory quality of previous descriptions and illustrations, a cotype of this form is redescribed. Only 3 collections, consisting of 23 females from cattle in India and single females from a horse and sheep in Iran are known. Whether aponommoides merits full specific status or not awaits discovery and study of males and immature stages.
