Cuttings of D. elliptica and L. utilis were treated with indoleacetic acid, indolebutyric acid, naphthaleneacetic acid, and naphthaleneacetamide by the concentrated soln. dip technique. All compounds, except indoleacetic acid, proved highly effective in rooting both Derris and Lonchocarpus. However, roots produced [center dot] on treated leafless cuttings of both spp. did not grow well, while those produced on treated leafy cuttings grew exceptionally well. This collapse of the roots on leafless cuttings as a result of the treatment was induced without any evidence of external injury to the tissues of the base of the cuttings. The disturbance concerned with on leafless cuttings is apparently an internal physiol. one created by the treatment and is associated with an excessive number of roots.
