Abstract
Rats were fed cholesterol and bile salt with the diet, one group receiving in addition thyroid USP, and another group thiouracil. The hyperthyroid animals showed an approx. normal blood cholesterol, but the increase of the liver cholesterol was not prevented, and sections of the aorta revealed widely scattered small cholesterol crystals. When the cholesterol and bile salt were fed in combination with thiouracil, its concn. in blood and liver rose markedly, and a few animals had microscopic birefringent foci in the aorta. Keywords
