Abstract
A rapid and selective method for the oxidation of primary alcohols to aldehydes and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons to quinones is described. In the recommended procedure the substrate in an organic solvent is shaken with aqueous acidic dichromate and a phase-transfer agent and the effect of the reaction conditions on the selectivity and rate of the reactions is discussed. Keywords
