Abstract
Primary carcinoma of the cystic dust is rare and has not been cited as a cause of gallbladder perforation. This report describes the unique combination of primary carcinoma of the cystic duct with perforation of the gallbladder and a left sub-phrenic abscess. None of the abdominal pathology was suspected ante-mortem because the patient presented with findings of intra-thoracic disease. There have been over 200 cases of carcinoma involving the cystic duct reported. However, this case represents only the eleventh case that fulfills the criteria necessary to make a diagnosis of primary carcinoma of the cystic duct. It is the first case reported in which the cystic duct neoplasm resulted in perforation of the gallbladder with subsequent left subphrenic abscess formation. Keywords
