Radioactive Decay of 23-minSb131to Levels ofTe131

Abstract
The levels of Te131 have been investigated by studying the γ rays following the β decay of 23-min Sb131 using Ge(Li) detectors. The Sb131 sources were produced by rapid separation of Sb from U235 thermal-neutron-fission products. 60 γ rays attributed to Sb131 decay have been observed and γγ coincidence relationships have been obtained for the prominent lines. A level scheme has been constructed which incorporates 40 of these γ transitions between 23 levels in Te131. This level scheme is compared with the level structure of other odd-A Te isotopes and is discussed within the framework of the pairing-plus-quadrupole model.
