Organic photorefractive materials: a new structural approach

Abstract
Orientational confinement of NLO molecules, both for a maximum EO effect and as a low barrier to photo-induced charge generation and transport, is considered a key principle in the design of potentially efficient organic photorefractive crystals. A supramolecular approach to space-charge induced photorefractive effects is discussed, on the basis of an inclusion lattice formed by perhydrotriphenylene (PHTP) and optically non-linear guest molecules exhibiting pronounced terminal functional group interactions along polar molecular strings.© (1996) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
