Hypertext: Technology, Applications, and Research Issues

Abstract
This article reviews the historical development and technological features of hypertext, a computerized nonlinear text system. New capabilities and their implications of hypertext are described. Three major areas of applications are identified: instruction, electronic publishing and on-line database, and thinking and authoring tools. Research issues in document processing and education are discussed.Keywords
