Abstract
Full-sib and half-sib families were produced by factorial matings within a strain of Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus. Genetic parameters were estimated for growth characters at 12 and 18 months age and for survival up to 7 months of age. Heritabilities for weight and length ranged between 0.13 and 0.17. Condition factor heritabilities were estimated at 0.54 (12 months) and 0.32 (18 months). Heritability for survival was close to zero. Genetic correlations were high between weight and length. Genetic correlations between condition factor and weight or length were intermediate or low. Family or combined selection is proposed to improve growth of juvenile Arctic char in aquaculture. Keywords
