Etch Pits in Manganese Ferrite Single Crystals

Abstract
An etching procedure for revealing dislocations intersecting the three crystallographic surface in manganese ferrites is developed. Different etchants were used for different crystallographic surface. Etch-patterns are observed on {100} and {110} surfaces etched in 10% H2SO4 with zinc powder and on {111} surfaces etched in hydrochloric acid. Etch-patterns of manganese ferrites best plastically at 1350°C are investigated by this etching technique. It is concluded that the slip planes of manganese ferrites are {110} with Burgers vectors.
