Leisure-Time Pursuits Among Retired Blacks by Social Status

Abstract
Retired Florida blacks were studied to ascertain the configuration of their leisure-time activities and the determinants of their choices. Interviews were conducted with 101 persons representing the upper-middle, upper-lower, and lower-lower classes. Evident strong desires to improve present reading and writing skills and to learn new activities have implications for planners of adult education programs. Future investigations of leisure among the black aged might focus on the social classes not studied here.
