Abstract
Safeguarding the primacy of the person in a technologic society will probably always be a challenge, especially in relation to its weaker members. Despite sincere efforts to anticipate and avoid it, chances are that a "humanization lag" will continue to exist between our devices and the modifications that make it possible to live comfortably with them. From aerosols to zeppelins, improvements are made in response to a felt human need. Whether because children can't vote or because adults tend to view anything remembered from their own childhoods as sacrosanct, playgrounds and the equipment installed on them have for too long gone unexamined in terms of their suitability for human use. Keywords
