Coherent light oscillator by self-induced holographic gratings in SBN:Ce crystals

Abstract
The coherent light oscillation in linear and ring cavities with the gain medium on holographic induced gratings in Ce doped Sr1-xBaxNb2O6 crystals has been obtained. Oscillation appeared without any apparent pumping power threshold at the excitation levels down to 75 μW on 488 nm Ar laser line. The angular dependence of gain reaching 50cm-1 has been measured. The strong selffocusing was observed with the nonlinear lens power reaching 60 diopters in a 1 mm thick sample for the first time in ferroelectrics. The positive lens aris;es mainly due to heating of crystal by absorbed radiation and its optical power is determined by the peak values of the thermooptical constants in the vicinity of the phase transition.
